What's the deal with the cord?

The handfasting ceremony has ancient celtic roots and it is from this custom that the phrase "tying the knot" comes from.

This is because the ritual actually involves joining the couple with cords that are fastened around their wrists.

Soradobi and Pocky have incorporated this into their wedding ceremony to show they are united as one...

Or perhaps to keep the groom from running away!
