That file spent the day in Notepad before being pasted here. Whew.

While we're changing this around, I've got two questions about how we're going to handle things.

How are we going to handle items with a "some assembly required" version, as that version is technically in Miscellaneous Items? (That's the Aqua-Splash, the Devastator, the Lawnmower, and the Jerrycan Gun.) I included the icons in the weapon's listing for life-cycle completeness, for now.

How are we going to handle items with an empty and a loaded/charged version? Technically, there is no "Water Pistol" in the game; there's 4 different items: Water Pistol (empty), Water Pistol (1 shot), Water Pistol (2 shots), and Water Pistol (3 shots). Should we make individual pages for each item (each with its correct name & image in its metadata) and then have the common name ("Water Pistol" in this example) be a disambiguation page, or a pseudo-item page that has its own metadata (perhaps using the highest-charged/loaded version's image) where the generic "Here's how to use a water pistol, in whatever form" info goes?

Aside, I think the Jerrycan Pump (empty) should have its name changed from Pump to Gun, to match the (ready) version, and leave Jerrycan Pump as the (unattached) item. That's an issue for MT, though. --Terion 21:43, 9 January 2011 (PST)

  • Aaand, just realized I missed some weapons like the Chainsaw and the Electric Whisk, that weren't in the page before (and also happen to have pre-assembly versions, which is why I just noticed them.) --Terion 21:47, 9 January 2011 (PST)
I figure it would be easier if each set of items had its own disambiguation/pseudo-item page (i.e. Water Pistol), and in most places the specific items (i.e. Water Pistol (1 shot)) would be omitted to reduce confusion and clutter. The obvious exclusion to this would be cases in which an action is item-specific (such as if a loaded Water Pistol can be found in special zones, or a similar situation). My two cents. I think stuff that just needs a battery or water to be charged or loaded, should have a single item page, the various name variants can be stored in the metadata. I already have the metadata set up to display different images on demand, see Data:Water Cooler Bottle and Template:MetaInline. I can expand that to the different names and rework the template a little better. I think incomplete items should perhaps be an exception though, as they tend to be in a different category to the finished object, but they could be treated just the same in the metadata. That looks really nice, even with just a quick glance. I am in awe of your wiki-skills. ;) Just started a new job, so I don't have the time to really examine the mechanism in depth, but the usefulness seems profound. --Terion 21:45, 10 January 2011 (PST)
I actually took the templates from the kol wiki terion, i've just modified them a little. Discordance 13:51, 12 January 2011 (PST)

After finishing all the category templates, i think it makes a lot more sense for incomplete items to have their own page and just merge the pages for loaded/unloaded items. Discordance 15:48, 15 January 2011 (PST)

I'm turning the various sections into tables for easier reading. Since most melee weapons function the same (actual weapons, defenses, decorations), should they all be put into one table? A column can be added to designate their item type. For instance:

Weapon Type Kill Rate Breakage Rate Notes
Box Cutter Weapon 28.5% 85.7%
Unshaped Concrete Blocks Defence 100% 100%
Old Washing Machine Furniture 100% 40%

I haven't used any animals yet, so I don't really understand their killing mechanic, but it doesn't seem like they'd fit into the melee table. --TechSmurf 21:07, 27 May 2011 (PDT)

I think it would be better to keep the sections separate on this page rather than ending up with a giant table in the article, the other category pages also have similar sub-sections. However having a list of weapons that is just a giant table would make a handy reference on another table. Sorttables are working so people can rearrange the giant table as they like. I just want to add, i just used the unshaped concrete blocks and managed to get 2 kills with them before it broke. So it's not a 100% chance of breaking, however it's most likely quite high. Cool4345 04:39, 21 May 2012 (PDT)

The Unshaped Concrete Blocks page seems to have noted that down already, but thanks for the information. -- Nickyh 05:58, 21 May 2012 (PDT)

BarehandedEdit

I didn't see anywhere better to put this, so here's some data on barehanded fighting:

Attacks Kills
24 2

8.3% so far. --KlarkMorrigan 05:29, 7 March 2012 (PST)

Drunken flails Kills
4 1

Weapon TestingEdit

Implementing a spreadsheet for a more efficient collection of data. For now I'm going remain the only one with access to the spread, message me if you have suggestions or would like access to the data.   Mazt 16:43, 12 December 2011 (PST)

Sometime last year the spreadsheet vanished. :( I guess we'll go back to putting test data on the weapon's talk page.--Julia 05:55, 8 May 2013 (PDT)
Agreed. Perhaps we could start a new spreadsheet or dedicated page for weapons testing? Here perhaps? --  Nickyh 08:08, 8 May 2013 (PDT)
