- Scavenge outside and explore the map. It is essential to find as many resources and buildings as possible, as it will become harder to explore and find items as the zombie numbers increase. Most of the town should be outside on day 1, with as few people staying inside as possible.
- Do not build a
Hovel or a 
Tent. The (AP) spent building these can be better spent outside, finding defensive items.
- Do not build the
Portal Lock as this wastes resources and is generally not helpful to the town.
- Build the
Workshop,the 
Watchtower and the 
Searchtower. If you cannot find the 
Electronic component to build the Searchtower, then build the 
Pump and the 
Water Purifier.
- The Day 1 attack is low, with a maximum of 29 zombies. With enough people scavenging in the World Beyond, you should not need to build any defensive structures. However, if your town is disorganized and your defense is low, then
Wall Upgrade v1 is a good option.

- Upgrade the Searchtower if it is built, and the Watchtower if it is not.
- Assign somebody to shut the gates, preferably every night. This person should have a reliable internet connection and the ability to be on before the attack every day.
