There are other versions of the game, Hordes (French) and Die Verdammten (German).

These versions contain different features, some of which are upcoming features for Die2Nite but at this point in development there are few differences remaining. There are however a few other differences and cut content in those verions.

Differences

• In the German version there were two replacements made at the first anniversary of "Die Verdammten":
  • Vodka Marinostov has been replaced by Green Beer. It is functionally identical just a reskin. The fact that it is a green bottle is assumed to be a hint to the german beer "Beck's".
  • The Shady Bar was replaced with the ZomBEER Bar, this is a tribute to the biggest RP-Thread in the german world forums, where every hero could join and relax.

Hordes features

Hordes has a number of additional features that may be upcoming for Die2Nite. Most of these features have also been added to Die Verdammten.

• Sulphuric acid - found in an Old Field Hospital, allows many items to be dissolved with a chance of retaining the acid after use.

Private Towns

Private towns allow you to set a few options such as starting water, type of game, frequency of ghouls etc. They require 40 people to register for the town before they can begin and it is recommended to send out more than 40 invites.

Ghouls

Ghouls are generated periodically in town or you can find an item that will transform you, they must consume Human Flesh or preferably live victims to satisfy their hunger or risk starving to death. The town will actively try to kill them if discovered. You gain 1 hero day per citizen eaten and 2 per hero eaten. This is a short summary there are many other aspects of being a Ghoul.

• Corpse of a traveller - When eaten you become a Ghoul.
• Gnawed corpse - evidence that someone has eaten a corpse and become a ghoul.
• Ghoul vaccine - cure for being a ghoul, can be found in abandoned hospitals. (hordes only)

Day/Night effects

Die2Nite has a day and night cycle but currently this does not appear to have an effect on our version. Hordes has a penalty for searching at night which can be overcome by placing either a MagLite or a Bedside Lamp (on) on the floor.

• MagLite (off) - recharge with a Battery
• MagLite (1 charge) - 5 decoration points, place on the ground to cancel night search penalty. Loses a charge at the end of the day.
• MagLite (2 charges) - 10 decoration points, place on the ground to cancel night search penalty. Loses a charge at the end of the day.

Hordes events

Hordes has been running a lot longer than Die2Nite and has seen a number of events. Some are holiday events but there have been in-game competitions and other events also.

Halloween 2010

• Soft Pumpkin - can be carved at the cost of using up a knife
• Carved Soft Pumpkin - 5 decoration points, can be lit with a Box of Matches and a Pharmaceutical Products
• Lit Pumpkin - 15 decoration points and a defence object

2 Year Anniversary

• Firework Launch Tube - Required for the Grand Fireworks Display
• Box of Fireworks - Required for the Grand Fireworks Display
• Super-Fuzz Powder - Required for the Grand Fireworks Display
• Grand Fireworks Display - 500 , 100 , ×1 ×1 ×1 ×2 ×5 ×5

Christmas 2009

• Large Gift Parcel - (recently appeared in die2nite?) given as a present to players, contained one of:
  • Broken Electronic Device
  • "Wake The Dead"
  • Assault Rifle (unloaded)
  • Pocket Vibrator (incomplete)
  • Shrewd citizen's stash
  • Teddy Bear
  • Vodka Marinostov
  • Construction Kit
• Worn Red Jacket - costume piece
• Ripped Red Trousers - costume piece
• Smelly Red Hat - costume piece
• Costume smelling of another time - when assembled the costume allowed players to steal from others without limit and earned a bad santa distinction
• Santa Claus is a bum - distinction with titles for stealing gifts from other citizen's using the santa suit

Cut content

Certain items and distinctions have been removed from the game over time.

• Betapropine 5mg - beta only drug
• Flare similar to the Radius Radar Beacon but would reveal only 1 random map square. Was removed in version 2 of Hordes.
• Hanging used to have the title "Piñata" for 20 hangings
• There used to be a distinction for suicide by cyanide.
• r_refer.gif identical to A referral distinction that counted only signups and not just paying signups.

Unimplemented/joke content

These items have images on the servers and may possibly be in the item database but have never been available to players in the game. The may be unfinished items, cut items, admin items, or simply jokes to tease players.

• Handful of Bullets - apparently available in Hordes for loading Assault Rifle (unloaded) or Revolver (unloaded), they can then be used against zombies. Still largely considered an admin hoax and non-functional when spawned in die2nite.
