Haven't you heard those ghost stories in which the soul of a person who had a violent death lingers in this world to haunt the living? You'd be surprised, it isn't so far from reality.

The souls of the freshly departed Citizens who suffered a horrible, painful Death now haunt the vast, devastated lands of the World Beyond. Every time a citizen does not survive The Attack of the horde, their now released spirit will become an Aimless Soul wandering in the desert. If a lucky Soul Collector happens to find them, they can take them back to their Town where they can be released to increase the town's score, or given to the local Shaman, who can use them for several purposes.

Note that all Souls start being Weak Souls, regardless of the citizen's level or profession. Therefore the soul of an inexperienced citizen gives the same number of points to the town as the soul of an experienced citizen, and the Soul of a Resident is exactly equal is the soul of a Hero. In order to refine them to make them Powerful Souls, a Shaman must perform a dire ritual with them at the Workshop.

Note that souls which remain unused and those converted into Powerful Souls when the town finishes will give no bonus points.

Aimless Souls[edit]

An Aimless Soul will appear in the desert when a citizen has died after The Attack. Their locations seem to be randomized. Using his/her Voodoo Mask, a Shaman is capable of locating the souls in the explored parts of the map. Other citizens cannot see them, but they can pick them should they find them. Picking a soul grants the Soul Collector distinction.

Weak Souls[edit]

Every time an Aimless soul is taken, it will become a Weak Soul. Except for players of the Shaman class, only one soul can be carried at a time. Shamans don't have this limitation. Weak Souls serve as tools for Shamans to perform their rituals as, for example, to Make it Rain on the zombies. Any citizen can use the soul from his/her home to increase the town's score by 10 points. Shamans can convert Weak Soul at the Workshop to Powerful Soul. This will give everyone in town the Mystic Points distinction.

Powerful Souls[edit]

A Powerful Soul is a Weak Soul that was converted in the Workshop by a Shaman. Converting a Weak Soul into a Powerful Soul requires the same process as converting other materials. cost-reducing items and buildings, such as the Hacksaw and Factory also apply. Powerful Souls lose their ability to help in the Make it Rain skill and cannot be used to increase the town's score, but are necessary construction materials for some powerful temporary defenses:
