[v·e] Shaman
The Shaman is an incredibly powerful voodoo sorceror who can profit from the deaths of other citizens to carry out their black magic. The Shaman knows how to make use of the useless and knows how to bring about a more useful reincarnation for our dearly departed.

The Shaman is a role in Distant and Hardcore Towns which is decided upon by election. The Electoral Office opens on the Citizen's page once the Sanctuary is constructed, and closes at Midnight the same day. When in the World Beyond, Heroes can cast their vote via carrier pigeon. There can be only one Shaman at a time. If a Shaman dies, a new election will take place on the day after the former Shaman's death is recorded in the Gazette. The Shaman alone can accurately spot Lost Souls which are wandering the World Beyond. The Shaman is also known to practice a variety of ancient healing methods... None of which come with guarantee or disclaimer! Caveat emptor? You get what you pay for? Take your pick. A fickle business is this Shamanism.

Abilities[edit]

  • Locate Lost Souls in the World Beyond. Souls are shown on the Map. Each Soul will be displayed hovering over a 2X2 square of zones, and on most occasions, will be found on the lower right zone. It is possible for more than one Soul to appear on a single zone.
  • Transport as many Souls as their Inventory allows. Other Professions are limited to carrying just one Soul.
  • Each day, the Shaman receives 5 special Mystic Points which can be used in the following ways;
    • Make it rain: This costs 3 and has different effects depending on the location where it is used:
      • If used in the World Beyond, has a chance to eliminate from 3-6 Zombies in the zone it is used. This function will not work if there are no Zombies present, and if there are 1-3, it will clear the zone.
      • If used at the Town Gates, it has a chance to add 5 Water Rations to The Well. If successful, the following entry will be displayed in The Great Register; [Shaman] made it rain baby! Thanks to them the well has gained 5 rations of clean water!
    • Create a special Mystic Potion that allows other Citizen's to be able to collect Tortured Souls when in the World Beyond. Without this, other Citizen's will instantly die if they try to pick up a Tortured Soul. The creation of this potion needs one Water Ration and one .
  • The Shaman may heal the following effects at the cost of 2 per attempt: Note: The attempt may also result in the shaman taking the affliction into his own body. (Unknown chance.)
    • Terrorized
Success: There's nothing better than fear to vanquish terror. You remove your Shaman mask and gently blow a home-made hallucinogenic powder onto their face, to induce a sleep-walking state. Your tête-à-tête quickly provokes "pavor nocturnus". When they reawaken [Citizen] seems to have been relieved from their terrorized state.
Success but malady is transferred to Shaman: ???
Failure: However, simply seeing this citizen in such a state of utter terror has terrorized you.
    • Infected
Success: You unsheath [sic] your sacred knife and begin to «prepare» following a well-practised [sic] sequence of ritualistic movements. The energy flow guides you and without hesitation you make an incision at the base of the infected limb. The decontamination process is underway, albeit slowly.
Success but Infection is transferred to Shaman: You unsheath [sic] your sacred knife and begin to «prepare» following a well-practised [sic] sequence of ritualistic movements. The energy flow guides you and without hesitation you make an incision at the base of the infected limb. The decontamination process is underway, albeit slowly. Suddenly an infected blister bursts. Your already scorched skin quickly breaks out in open sores and infectious germs decide to make them their home.
Failure: That's impossible... you don't feel anything, no energy, no flow to guide you. The risk of killing [Citizen] is too great.
    • Drunk
Success: You unsheath [sic] your sacred knife and begin to «prepare» following a well-practised [sic] sequence of ritualistic movements. The energy flow guides you and without hesitation you make an incision just beside the liver. As a clear liquid leaks from their freshly mutilated body, [Citizen] is freed from the clutches of alcohol.
Success but Status is transferred to Shaman: ???
      Failure: ???
    • Drugged
Success: You unsheath [sic] your sacred knife and begin to «prepare» following a well-practised [sic] sequence of ritualistic movements. The energy flow guides you and without hesitation you make an incision just beside the right lung. Try as you may to resist the forces guiding you, you cannot stop your blade from plunging deep into [Citizen], causing a clear liquid to leak from their freshly mutilated body.
Success but Status is transferred to Shaman: ???
Failure: That's impossible... you don't feel anything, no energy, no flow to guide you. The risk of killing [Citizen] is too great.
  • The Shaman CANNOT heal the following effects:
    • Wounded
    • Hooked!
    • Dehydrated!
    • Hungover
You cannot heal this citizen. Their status either cannot be healed, or someone has already tried to heal them today.
    • The Shaman CANNOT use healing abilities in the World Beyond.
    • The Shaman CANNOT use healing abilities when Terrorized.
    • The Shaman CANNOT use healing abilities when Infected.
    • The Shaman CANNOT use healing abilities when Drunk.
    • The Shaman CANNOT use healing abilities when Drugged.
    • The Shaman CANNOT use healing abilities when Hungover.

Election[edit]

In Distant Regions, Citizen's can vote for the Shaman at the Electoral Office. This can be accessed in the Citizen's page. Heroes can cast their vote via carrier pigeon from anywhere on the Map.

  • Any player who does not cast a vote will have their vote cast randomly to a Citizen that is alive after the Attack.
  • If the player you vote for dies before or during the Attack, your vote is redirected to a random player who received at least one vote (including votes by people who also died), and is also alive after the Attack. If no-one alive after the Attack received a vote, then your vote will go to a random Citizen who is alive after the Attack.
  • If you vote, but die before or during the Attack, your vote will be invalid.

Information unverified in Season 11[edit]

  • The ailment is randomly chosen from all the negative effects on the target.
  • It has a chance to fail, or transfer the status relieved to the shaman.
  • A citizen can only be healed once a day, even if it fails. Once an attempt is made, all other shamans can no longer heal that person for the day as well. However, the shaman may attempt to heal other players.

Notes[edit]

  • In Season 5:
    • New Heroic class Shaman is added.
